Music Notes

The Lakeshore Elementary Spotted Half Notes is a before-school, audition-only mallet group offered to all 4th and 5th grade students.  This group is a way for students at Lakeshore to further develop their talents and love of music.  This group focuses on leadership, teamwork, and harmony through ensemble.  The music is based off of traditional Shona style Zimbabwe marimba music.  Students who are interested in the Spotted Half Notes are recommended to join in 4th grade to gain beneficial experience.  However, every 5th grade student is more than welcome to try out, regardless of previous experience.

    Things to Know

Auditions take place each fall and then again in winter after the Holiday break.  Each child interested in participating must audition.  Acceptance to the group is based on numerous factors including musical skill, overall attitude and participation, and conduct in class.  The 2017-2018 Spotted Half Notes will consist of approximately 15 members.

Rehearsals are Monday through Thursdays (4 days a week) before school from 7:30am - 7:55am. Members of the Half Notes should be at school NO LATER than 7:30am and must report immediately to the music room.  Classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:00am, so rehearsal needs to end at 7:55 sharp to allow students time to get to their classrooms.  Punctuality is important so that we can have a full 25 minutes to rehearse.
